Chamberlain University, America’s largest school of nursing and a Covista institution, today announced it will open a new campus in Salt Lake City, Utah. The campus continues Chamberlain’s national expansion strategy to address the U.S. healthcare workforce shortage. The university will begin accepting applications on July 21, 2026, with pre-licensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) classes beginning October 26, 2026.
The announcement comes as the region grapples with one of the most acute healthcare worker shortages in the nation. According to the Covista Care Capacity Monitor, fielded by Gallup, Utah has the lowest number of nurses per capita of any state, just 7 per 1,000 residents, and the gap is widening. Salt Lake City records more than 24,000 open healthcare jobs each year, with more than five open positions for every available job seeker. 76% of clinicians nationwide say that the shortage already compromises their ability to deliver high-quality care.1 Utah’s patients and communities feel that gap every day, and Chamberlain’s Salt Lake City campus is a step towards expanding the pool of healthcare professionals.
