44th annual event draws 228 competitors to Dewey Beach, DE
DEWEY BEACH, DE, UNITED STATES, August 14, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Timmy Gamboa of Laguna Beach, California, and Casey McCullough of Stuart, Florida, claimed professional division victories at the 44th Annual Zap World Championships of Skimboarding, held August 7-9 in Dewey Beach, Delaware. The longtime Skim USA event brought together top professional and amateur skimboarders from across the United States and around the world, including competitors from Brazil, Portugal, and Mexico. The event also marked the third of five stops on the 2026 United Skim Tour, the premier international competition circuit for skimboarding.
The three-day event drew 228 entries, including 35 Pro Men, 10 Pro Women and 22 Semi-Pro competitors. Clean 1-3 foot lines ran down the beach from south to north throughout the weekend, providing consistent conditions for both professional and amateur competition.
Gamboa Takes His Second Career UST Victory for Pro Men
Gamboa earned his first Zap World Championships victory in his fifth appearance at the event, his second ever UST event win, narrowly defeating New Jersey standout Sean Newbert in a closely contested Pro Men final.
“This is the fifth time I’ve done this event. To win it after five tries, I just feel so grateful,” said Gamboa. “It feels like I should never give up.” Gamboa entered finals day looking to separate himself from a deep field of competitors. “My thought process was to give the judges something different,” Gamboa said of his approach.
Newbert, of West Long Branch, New Jersey, finished just 0.4 points behind Gamboa to secure second place. Dane Cameron of Laguna Beach finished third after posting the highest heat total of the weekend, a 27.8-point performance that included three scores of nine points or higher. João Lucas of Angra dos Reis, Brazil, rounded out the Pro Men final in fourth.
McCullough Secures Pro Women Victory
In the Pro Women division, three-time UST champion McCullough emerged on top of an international field after balancing competition with a new challenge this year: motherhood.
“It was a hard week, momming and competing,” said McCullough. “It’s very different, having a lot more responsibilities than just skimboarding. The conditions have been amazing. The level of competition is at its highest. I went into today knowing that I have to put everything on the line.”
Dewey Beach local Sydney Pizza finished second, while Julia Dias of Ubatuba, Brazil, took third. Another Dewey Beach competitor, Alex Yokley, finished fourth.
The professional divisions featured riders from across the United States and around the world, including competitors from Brazil, Mexico and Portugal. Among the international standouts were João Lucas, who finished fourth in Pro Men; Mexico’s Elian Juarez, who finished seventh; Dias, who placed third in Pro Women; and Portugal’s Kika Freire, who finished seventh.
Semi-Pro Division
Brady Crall took the Semi-Pro title ahead of Ethan Baum, Brody Morris and Trent Moranda. The division featured 22 competitors looking to make their mark in one of skimboarding’s longest-running competitive proving grounds.
