Recorded over the span of 2 years in Nashville and centered at Blackbird Studios, ‘Forest’ pushes genre boundaries of Cole’s prior work, incorporating lush orchestral arrangements with her signature storytelling style. The album chronicles the aftermath of the COVID lockdown; the unexpected new beginnings and abrupt endings that followed in various aspects of life, including work, relationships, and personal pursuits. Katie Cole delves into this emotional journey, capturing her highs and lows in each song.
Cole worked alongside Grammy-winning producer Howard Willing and string arranger Tim Lauer to craft an album that seamlessly weaves elements of folk and Americana storytelling into rich layers with timeless strings, horns, and woodwinds. The standout tracks include the opener “Always Do”, setting the pace for the unknowns of the heart, while “Love is a Liar” shares hopeful words of wisdom after the passing of Katie’s mother.
Since ‘Rivers & Roads’, Katie hasn’t slowed her creative pace continuing to tour with The Smashing Pumpkins, including a stadium tour performing at sizable venues including Wrigley Field. Her noted work comes into play as a collaborator with the band as background vocal arranger for 4 of their albums. Cole recently pivoted to tour with a large orchestra performing the music of Lord of the Rings & The Hobbit across Europe and North America and is slated to continue this Winter 2026/ ’27. Katie has also amassed awards including “Best Singer-songwriter” at the Nashville Scene ‘Best of Nashville’ awards and was nominated for her song ‘Love is a Liar’ at the Hollywood Independent Music awards. Katie Cole continues to build her fanbase through touring and notable festivals including Namm, and SXSW.
“Making FOREST has been a huge undertaking emotionally and mentally, but wholly worth it. I always dreamed that one day I’d be able to make an album with classic 50’s or 60’s-style orchestration akin to what you’d hear from Bing, Nat “King” Cole, or Dusty Springfield. With the guidance of my producer, Howard, I think that I created songs that truly warranted this type of treatment. I needed to raise the bar higher than I had before as both an artist and as a songwriter, and I went on to write about anxiety, love, heartache, and the grief I experienced from the passing of my mother in 2024. This album really covers a lot of ground.”
Singles “Always Do” and “Learning How To Lose” have received radio play across North America and her music video for “Saturn” was recently praised by Bluegrass Situation, saying “The new single is tantalizingly rootsy with folk and Americana instrumentation and lush strings. Katie Cole will support the album with various performances, including a TV appearance on “Today in Nashville” on WSMV on September 11 and a live radio show on November 6th at 3rd and Lindsley in Nashville, TN, with support from WMOT 89.5FM Nashville.
