The 11 a.m. ceremony will recognize the next generation in The Valley’s storied history, highlighting the investment underway to restore the property while preserving what has made it a longtime Mission Valley destination for generations.

Lowe is leading the project, applying its deep experience in the San Diego market, together with its dedicated retail platform, Retail reVision, to implement a mixed-use concept that will refresh the existing retail environment and introduce complementary uses across the property.

“The transformation will preserve and build on The Valley’s distinctive character and generational importance in the community, including its expansive open-air setting and mid-century-inspired architecture, while adding amenities, experiences and uses that carry the property into its next chapter,” said Todd Majcher, Senior Vice President for Lowe. “We are uncovering and elevating the qualities that make The Valley special while creating a modern destination that reflects how people live, work, shop, dine and gather today.”

The team’s vision for The Valley includes:

  • A vibrant, walkable, transit-oriented mixed-use village centered on the ethos of live, work and play.

  • Common areas with improved architecture, upgraded access, unified gathering spaces and public art.

  • A property rebrand with enhanced signage, graphics and wayfinding.

  • An expansion of retail and dining experiences by complementing existing high-performing merchants with additional food and beverage, entertainment and specialty retail offerings.

  • Re-energizing the historic Macy’s building with experiential retail and other uses.

  • New residential opportunities in strategic locations to complement the retail experience and create a more dynamic mixed-use environment.

The October 9 celebration will bring the community together throughout the day with a ribbon cutting and kickoff at 11 a.m., followed by remarks from Lowe, San Diego City Councilmember Stephen Whitburn and San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria. The celebration will also include an Aztec blessing, a Taste of the Valley featuring local food and beverage offerings, performances by local artists and community groups, and activities for families throughout the property.

The celebration marks a new chapter for a property that has been part of San Diego for generations, bringing together the community to recognize The Valley’s renewal and the vision for its future.

The Valley’s location in Mission Valley provides direct access to major San Diego thoroughfares, including I-8, I-805 and Highway 163. The property is also accessible via the Mission Valley Center Trolley Station, supporting the partners’ vision for a more connected, walkable destination.
